Garden Swap?

Thanks again Deb for hosting yet another Trashy group of people. Loved sharing another evening with you guys and yet again shopping Tracey's closet. We're going to have ONE more Trash or Treasure meeting before the 5-months comes to an end (if you can believe that!). Requests and Recommendations welcome! I'm thinking maybe Garden/Tool swap.

*Gardening paraphanalia
*Tools of any kind
*Pots/planters
*gardening gloves
*plants you no longer have a love for

Pretty much, this is your chance to clean out your garage before summer comes! You might even take home something from someone else's garage.

If this sounds like a good idea, let's go for it. We may also do one more clothing swap in June to get some "new" summer clothes (and you can clean out your closets for this season change since the last time we did this it was 35 degrees and raining). If you'd like to host, speak up!

THE GREEN FESTIVAL
Put it on your calendar, June 5-6 if you haven't already. You'll learn all about composting, biodegradable things of all kinds, eco friendly this and that, loads of organic and fair trade FOOD TASTING and little seminars all throughout the weekend. The Green Festival is my all time favorite trade show of all time. It's at the Convention Center and I'd love to get a group of peeps to go together on that Sunday morning-ish. Let me know if you're interested.

Ecosia & Green Festival

Eco-friendly search engine...REALLY COOL....there's a short video on how much TRASH search engines create over time and how this search engine is working to save the rainforest. Love it or Leave it.

Hey by the way, who out there has actually been seeing through this 5 long months of anti-consumer spending??? It's almost been 3 months. We have really generated a lot of interest in trading and I love that! Thanks to everyone who is "cleaning out their closets" as it has really been nice for those on the receiving end.

Mark your calendars: the Seattle Green Festival pretty much marks the end of our time (at least the first round) of Trash or Treasure and I'd love to get a big group together for this awesome event (I've been to it every year). JUNE 5-6

Clothing Swap Success

Thanks for a good night of clothing swap fun to everyone who came! Good times with the pink 80's jeans (Jen - you kill me), dresses, and all sorts of fun styles. Thanks to the "entertainers" of the evening as well! (salsa lessons to Sam & Tracey, pianist Sam, singer Josh)

Don't forget Vegfest the weekend of April 10-11 at the Seattle Center! Let me know if you want to go with me on Sun the 11th. Good times. Good eats.

Volunteer Opportunity

If you're into doing community events or volunteering, there's a great opportunity at VegFest held at the Seattle Center April 10-11.

The last meeting was a huge success, thanks for being there Stacy.

An email will go out to confirm the clothing swap the last weekend of Feb and I will need an RSVP for this one.

Groupon Daily Deals

How's it coming with this 5-month attempt at reduced spending on new things? I can assure you I have found no difficulty in this challenge of Trash or Treasure because I can find lots of ways to spend money. I'm not a spendy spender, I do love deals, and love to try new things especially living in Wallingford. So those who have not yet experienced Groupon.com, check this out!

http://www.groupon.com/r/uu221216

You get emails daily on places around Seattle offering a deal that's way too good to pass up. Often times they are new businesses trying to bring in customers or give people a reason to come in, it's usually 50% off or more for a service (yoga classes, nail salons, etc) or restaurants. I found my favorite yoga studio, Sutra Yoga, in Wallingford with this deal. Start pulling out your unwanted clothes for the clothing swap!

First Meeting

First off, congrats Darren Reed, who won the free 60-minute massage ~ The first meeting was a successful brainstorming meeting and a lot of fabulous ideas and input for such a small crowd (so small that I'm not even sure I'm allowed to call it a crowd). I've decided the easiest way to get all of YOUR input now is to post a separate blog for each topic, and below each you can type your comments so we can all see it!

We'll have our next meeting mid-Feb, date and location undecided but on a different night of the week so we can rotate. I'd like to have a sit-down meeting once a month, and exchange parties, community events, etc in between time, so lots of options of gatherings~!

I have to admit, only been at it for a few days, and I've already found myself struggling not to buy 'things I don't need' for the good of the T&T.

Service Swap

POST YOUR IDEAS HERE for service swaps. There are a couple different things people have come up with for services/bartering.

1) We all go around to someones house and help out with a project that they might have trouble doing on their own, especially for those who live alone in a house. Gardening is a great example of this and much needed in the spring and summer. Post ideas for this here.

2) Name your service! Post here what it is that you think you can offer up, whether it be that you can sew on buttons, you're good with crafty work or building, you're a photographer, etc. Once you've posted what you think you might be able to swap out, we can connect people that way!

As you all know....I can barter massage ;-)
